30th Birthday Wish List

I’ll be turning the big 3-0 in exactly two weeks’ time! Cannot believe I am entering the 3 series. Didn’t I just turn 25 a couple of years ago? Sighhhh

Anyway, I started making birthday wish lists last year and I decided I would want to continue making them in the years to come. So this year, my 30th year, I have a bunch of things I would love to receive *ehem* or even better, buy them with my own money cos that would be the ultimate greatest pleasure of all time.
Compared to last year’s wishlist (read here if you haven’t) I need want lesser things this year. I wonder why… probably the age. Of course, I wouldn’t mind receiving things (except the books cos I got them dah hihi) from last year wishlist for this year’s birthday. Tehehehe.
Lo’ and behold, my wish list for this year.

1. Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark 11 // 2. LV Montaigne BB in Rose Poudre // 3. Re-visit Oxford and London (I want flight tickets! :P) // 4. Salvatore Ferragamo Varina Ballerina Flats in New Bisque

Hah told you I’ve only a few things on my birthday wishlist this year kan. On top of it all, I would be grateful if both SS and I get to be parents. That would be the ultimate gift of all. Ameeen.
Till then,
XO,
Amirah Z.

Things I’ll Tell Myself 5 Years Ago

As I will be turning 30 in a couple of weeks, I thought I would share my top 5 things I would tell myself 5 years ago. Even though I did enjoy most my 20s, there were some things I wish I would have taken a different route. Therefore this list came into mind.

1. Time changes everyone. You can never expect one to stay the same. Like it or not, friends come and go. Don’t feel bad about it too long, learn to let go and move forward. You’ll soon realize you don’t need them anyway. Don’t be afraid to MOVE ON.

2. Being in your 20s, be it early or mid, is not old at all. Appreciate that you can stay awake after midnight right up till 7 am and then go only to sleep. DON’T TAKE THIS FOR GRANTED.

3. If you’re single, DON’T WORRY WOMAN. Enjoy your life, meet people, make lots of friends (you’ll thank yourself in the future), don’t settle down if deep down you know he is not the right guy. Don’t blardy waste time with idiots. You’ll find the ONE when the time is right. God works in mysterious ways. TRUST HIM.

4. Do things you never imagined doing. Get out of your comfort zone, LIVE LIFE and try not to take life seriously.

5. Last but not least, ENJOY THE LITTLE THINGS. Like seriously, you should. You’ll miss ’em the most, especially the things that you do with your parents. Cherish and love them more than you should.

What would you tell yourself 5 years ago? Do share with me down in the comments section below!

Till the next post,

XO,

Amirah Z.

PIXY | BB Cream

Well hello there ladies and gents! Today I’ll be sharing with you one of the hidden gems I found in my local drugstores. I present to you… the Pixy BB Cream. I for one, have this love-hate relationship with BB creams for some reason. I love how lightweight they feel on my skin but most BB creams I’ve tried don’t have the right shade for my skin. However, this is definitely not the case for this Pixy BB Cream.
Unfortunately, there aren’t many reviews on this product online so I did not read any reviews on this BB cream prior buying it. I was actually looking for a travel size face base for me to bring during my next trip. I had limited luggage space so I needed something small and light.
As I was looking around, I saw this BB Cream together with the other Pixy products ie compact powders (which I also LOVE, btw) and I tried their testers on the back of my palm. If I am not mistaken they have 3 shades. Tried all 3 and Beige was the closest to my skin color. Without thinking much further I decided to give this BB Cream a try as what can go wrong right.
This Pixy BB Cream comes in a friendly travel size, 30ml to be specific. I really cannot remember how much I got it for but definitely less than RM20. You can find this in Watsons and Guardian or anywhere that carries the Pixy brand.
It claims to have SPF30, staying power for 12 hours, lightweight and covers your blemishes well. I agree on all claims except for the staying power. I’ll tell you about that in a minute. So as I mentioned earlier, this BB Cream is very lightweight on the skin considering its texture is quite thick. Every time I have this on I really didn’t feel its existence. No kidding.

Ok now lemme talk about its staying power. BTW initially I wanted to only use this when I’m traveling but cause I love it so much I’ve started to use this on a daily basis. So I usually have my full face makeup at 9 am, so whenever I have this BB Cream on by noon my face is as oily as it can get. Mind you I have dry skin. However, I’ve realized this only occurs when I didn’t pat on powder after I’ve put on this BB Cream. I then tried a different method. After putting on this BB Cream, I put on some powder be it compact or loose, surprisingly my face stayed matte for a longer period of time. Tip: Finish off with powder gals for that matte look.
Another reason why I love this BB cream is because it does cover my blemishes very well. And I mean very, very, VERY well. I have acne scars that even sometimes some concealers and foundation cannot cover them well. To my surprise, this BB Cream does it well. I don’t know how it’s done but my face becomes flawless.  Not bad, high coverage I tell you. Sumpah tak tipu i.
Hmm what else… Oh and it oxidizes to my skin tone! This shade Beige is light on my skin but once it has settled into my skin it slowly turns into my skin tone. PERFECT. Tip: Buy a lighter shade than your skin tone and you’ll be alright.

To summarize, this is the perfect BB Cream if you’re looking for something easy, quick and affordable. This is definitely for you. If you haven’t tried BB creams or not a fan, I suggest you try this first and see if you still feel the same way. Hopefully, you’ll fall in love with it just like I did.  Now let’s get into the pro and cons list.
PROS:
Affordable
Easy to use
Works well
Easy to find ie Watsons
Perfect coverage

CONS:
Shade range

#Week 12/52 | The One With The Ashburn Retreat

Yep another family reunion. LOL. This time its with my mom’s relatives, which is a yearly thing. Each year we’ll take turns organizing and this year it was ours. So we started to look for a place since end of 2016, booked it and started to plan the activities and such.
Naadira, my sister, found this homestay bungalow in Melaka and it was a good choice. We booked the whole bungalow to ourselves which makes it even better, privacy box: ticked. The homestay is called Bungalow in a Village located in Semabok, Melaka 10 minutes from town. You can find more info here and here. Don’t get confused by the way, this homestay consists of 1 huge bungalow and 4 cabins in the same area. You can opt to book the whole bungalow and the cabin or even either one. We booked both, in case you’re wondering. Hehe.
For some reason I totally forgot to take loads of pictures of the house and cabins, silly me I know, hopefully these pictures are enough for you to see the amazing place. The bungalow has 4 huge rooms, huge cause 4-6 people can fit in 1 room, with extra mattresses/sleeping bags / toto of course. There are also 2 spacious living rooms, 1 in front and the other 1 at the back. Huge dry and wet kitchen, complete with a fridge and washing machine. The dining area is quite small for our big family but not a big issue for us. 2 rooms are located on the ground floor and the other 2 rooms on the first floor. The bungalow has only 2 floors. Also not forgetting, there’s a spacious outside patio located in the middle of the house, perfect for sunbathing (lol) or taking family pictures.
Oh and not forgetting, there’s and adult and kiddies pool. SCORE.

Ok back to the family day. Everyone arrived on Friday evening as it was school holidays, brought all sorts of kuih and just relaxed. After Maghrib the same day, we started the first game: Finding Your Teammates. Sounds easy kan? There’s a catch. Each team leaders (all 4 Ashburn children) and everyone else was given specific animal sounds namely chick (baby chick), crick (cricket), tsst (lizard) and tweet tweet (bird) before the start of the game. All team leaders will have to listen carefully to their own animal sounds and pick out their teammates. The rest of the group will simultaneously “scream” out their animal sounds until their team leaders found them. It was so funny I tell ya and we all had a good laugh. Once that was over we handed out their respective group t-shirts to be worn the next day.

the “find your teammates” aftermath

On the next day, we started the activities after breakfast. Everyone gathered in front of the patio according to their groups and the marshals ie my siblings explained to everyone the itinerary. So basically we prepared quite a number of activities throughout the 2nd day.

The first activity of the day was a treasure hunt with a twist. Each group had different items to find, then use the items and prepare a sandwich for the big boss aka our Tok Burn. There’s a catch too, each group will also have to bargain with each other because each group will not have a particular item to prepare their sandwiches and the other teams might have that particular item with them. Oh and only 1 man was allowed to prepare the sandwich within 5 minutes. Apart from searching the treasure, each group was given 1 sudoku puzzle to complete. It was so funny watching them run all over the house looking for treasure and when we told the “bargain” twist it became even funnier. Everyone suddenly was so kepoh and kecoh, it was a mad house!

Moving on, there were a number of balloon games which ended up with everyone soaked with water. Fun I tell you.

I honestly thought I had more outdoor pictures but I didn’t cause I was too busy uploading instastories. Lol. Oh well.
Later that night we had bbq dinner with a theme: Kesultananan Melayu Melaka. Everyone dressed up even Tok Burn!

On Sunday was free and easy, we all gathered in the bungalow and lepak-ed before checking out at 12pm. Alhamdulillah the family getaway went well, everyone enjoyed themselves and it wouldn’t have happened without the help and contribution from everyone especially my siblings. So proud of them. Good job bijesss.

Life Lately #6 | New Job

Ah yes life updates. It has been awhile, hasn’t it. Well many things has happened since my last “life update” last November. If you haven’t read about it, click here. Since then things have been slowly getting back on track.
Personal life is progressing well, Alhamdulillah although there were a few setbacks but hey thats life.
Work life on the other has been quite a rollercoaster. As you can see the title above, yep I landed a new job. All praises to Allah for this great opportunity. To be honest, I have been contemplating on whether to find a new job or stay put at my current place but, that didn’t stop me from updating my LinkedIn page and resume, just in case. Hehe.
True enough, I was “discovered” by my new company through LinkedIn. They sent me a message saying that they have an opening and I was called for an interview. Fast forward to today, I was offered the position. I must say I am so nervous. How can you not be? You’re going to start fresh by making new friends, adapting to a new environment, etc. Blardy nerve-wrecking I tell ya.
Anyway, my last day in my current position will be on the 25th of April, less than a month to go and I will start my new job immediately that next week. To be exact, on my BIRTHDAY the 2nd of May. I know right. There goes my birthday plans that week. Gahhhhh.
Apart from being nervous, I am also quite eager to start fresh. This time my new job requires me to drive to work as there is no LRT near my new workplace so I am back to driving to work. Hopefully all goes well, in sha Allah. I will share more on my new company and workplace in the upcoming posts, probably when I have settled in comfortably. Wish me luck guys, I really need it!
Oh on a different note, I will be in Bangkok this weekend with my girlfriend in conjuction of our 30th birthday celebration! Just the two of us, no boys allowed. Cannot wait!! Do stay tuned for interesting travel posts + Bangkok hauls soon. 🙂
Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon!

Let’s Dine Out #8 | Naj & Belle

naj & belle, ss15 courtyard, dessert, chocolate pavlova, molten lava cake
I have this thing where I want to try out all the hipster joints in Klang Valley but sadly, my purse disagrees with me. And SS too. Sigh. But I will try to visit them once in a blue moon especially if I had a bad week and needed some cheering up.

Naj & Belle is a cafe located in SS15 Courtyard, Subang Jaya. I’ve heard good reviews from friends about this place so I thought why not try it myself. Naj & Belle is situated right next to the main entrance so it wasn’t hard to find it if you’re a first-timer to the SS15 Courtyard.

The cafe has indoor and outdoor seats, which is great. Their outdoor seats are ah-mazing. They had leaves arranged on the sides to cover the sun from shining through, a couple of fans to ensure their customers won’t be sweating buckets seating outside and their chairs were surprisingly comfortable.

So okay. Let’s talk food. They serve quite a variety of food to choose, from brunch spreads to salads to pasta to sandwiches and to mains. We were there for tea so we only tried their desserts and coffee selection.

Macam-macam food they got

There were a lot of desserts selection on that day but we settled with Chocolate Pavlova which was so delicious! The sweetness was just the right amount to my liking, the meringue was perfect and the chocolate toppings sealed everything. The pavlova was my favorite among all that we ordered that day.

Our friend ordered their Molten Lava Cake (unfortunately no picture) which I think is one of their specialty but TBH I didn’t quite like it. As for drinks, I had green tea latte which was a total disappointment. It was tasteless, even though the green tea color looked promising. Starbucks green tea is so much better.

Overall the cakes were tasty, drinks were a disappointment but they are expensive! I know these sort of hipster joints are usually pricey but I felt that this particular cafe was a lot pricier than the rest.

I’m sorry Naj & Belle but you kinda disappoint me. However, to those who haven’t try this place, don’t let my rating stop you. Different people have different views (and taste buds) so you might just like it. Would I go again? Hmmmmmmm probably not kot.

#Week 11/52 | The One With The Doa List

Last Sunday my parents in law ie SS mom and stepdad left for Umrah for 2 weeks. Previously when my parents went for Umrah they asked us to prepare a “doa shopping list” for them to bring to Mekah.
This time around SS and I gave a similar list to his mom and both of us had almost the same doa, to have kids of our own. That goes on top of both of our lists, In sha Allah it will be granted. Ameen.

Other than that we had nothing much to do over the weekend. We stayed over at the moms, spent time with them, had homemade lontong (yums gils) and sent them to KLIA the next day. Plus we had to save some of our energy for the very busy, exciting week ahead. For what you ask? A family gathering! Yes, another one! This time its for my mum’s side. Stay tune to see where / what we’ll do next weekend.

Till then, thanks for reading guys!

#Week 10/52 | The One With The Bugis Reunion

Last weekend was a hectic one but fun! Dad’s side of the family had a 2 days family reunion at Regency Tanjung Tuan, Port Dickson. This was the first ever family reunion for the Nasir clan which has over 100 pax. Nasir, btw, is my great-grandfather who is the late father of my late grandmother ie my dad’s mother. So I am the 4th generation and Dad is the 3rd generation of the Nasir clan.
So arwah Tok Nasir and his wife, arwah Tok Gayah has 12 children, 4 has passed away (including my grandmother) leaving only 8 of them. So this reunion was to gather all 8 families including their children and grandchildren and to also share with the younger generation of our roots.
Little family history (so that I don’t forget LOLs) before I get into the reunion activity, so Tok Nasir and Tok Gayah were based in Muar. They got married and had their children all in Muar. In fact, my dad was also born in Muar. Yep, that explains the “Bugis” in the title above.

Ok enough family history, back to the fun weekend. So everyone headed to PD around 11am on Saturday and thankfully traffic was smooth. Reached Tanjung Tuan around 1230pm just in time to have packed homemade nasi briyani lunch by my young Aunty (read: she’s 26 y/o!) who has her own Nasi Briyani Gam business.
After lunch we rested for awhile as the activities started at 3pm. Tons of games were held that day, from water balloon games to tug of war to building sand castles. The games ended around 6pm which gave ample time for everyone to rest and freshen up for the bbq dinner later that night.
I totally forgot to take photos as I was so busy uploading instastories instead. haha! Oh well these ought to do.

Mi familia 🙂

SS and my cousin Adam participating in the Bob Marley Game

After Maghrib everyone gathered downstairs for dinner and the closing ceremony. It started off with very old, black and white pictures of our ancestors and my toks childhood pictures. On top of that, each tok shared stories of our family history which I loved. I love listening to stories from the old folks especially during pre-Merdeka days.
Then it was prize giving time, my team a.k.a the Blue Warriors came last place (LOLs) but  SS and I won 2nd place for the Bob Marley Game. The night ended with of course, karaoke-ing and walking by the beach before both us went to bed.
Menang gak something kahkah
All in all, it was a such an eventful reunion and so happy we got to see all my cousins, uncles and aunties participating in all the scheduled events. Here’s hoping to more family reunions in the future!

Essence | I ❤ STAGE Eyeshadow Base

Today I’ll be sharing a drugstore eyeshadow base that I’ve been using since last year. You see, before I splurge on high end products I will try and use drugstore ones first and see if it works so that I don’t have to be spending tons of money on expensive ones. Truthfully, I don’t have the pleasure of spending money on expensive makeup products because I have other important life obligations. #dewasasungguh
On that note, I found this Essence eyeshadow base one fine day while I was nonchalantly strolling in Watsons. All this while I have been using my concealer as my eyeshadow base and it worked. However, at that time, I was in the phase of “building my makeup collection” and I thought why not just try this affordable eyeshadow base.

Mind you, this was my first ever eyeshadow primer so I have nothing to compared it to but I do roughly can tell if its worth the shot. As I mentioned, this has been in my collection since 2016 so I think its long enough for me to sum up my personal thoughts on this primer. Let’s begin.
This eyeshadow primer has 4ml product, which I think is a LOT. Trust me. Its life span is only 6 months which I’ve had this for a lot longer. HAHA. Don’t follow my steps, please. The texture is lightweight, creamy and not sticky but it does hold your eyeshadow pretty well.

The size of its wand is just nice, not too big nor too small. It fits well on the eyelids, picks quite a lot of product. I’ve tried putting a small amount on the eyelids, it did hold on to the eyeshadows well but not for a long period of time. Thats not a big problem for me cos I usually have eye makeup on max 5-6 hours everyday. Hence, a little product does go a long way. Sebab tu sampai sekarang my tube tak habis habis HAHA.

Overall, I like this base. As I mentioned earlier, I have nothing else to compare this with so for a start this impressed me. If you are looking for an affordable eyeshadow base, you might want to try this.
PROS:
Affordable
Easy to use
Works well
Easy to find ie Watsons
CONS:
Longevity not great
Repurchase: Not now as I would want to try others

#Week 9/52 | The One With The Lazy Weekend

Week 9. The first week of March. The month that I’ve been waiting for besides May. Hehehe. More on that in the upcoming weekly posts.
So because March will be hectic, I’ve decided to stay in this weekend to finish up all my ironing and spring clean the house before we leave for our trips.
On Saturday morning I changed my MYR to THB (Bangkok soon with my girl!) at SS15, the money changer next to Maybank. If you’re a Subang-ian you might have heard of this money changer. He used to give out good exchange rates but this time around I think he played me. Never ever going back to this place again. A friend told me that the ones in Sunway Pyramid and PKNS are way better. Sigh. Takpe next time. Btw, anyone knows where else we can get good exchange rates here in the Subang/Shah Alam/PJ area? It will be very helpful if you could share them in the comments below!
After that, we had our usual Nasi Kukus Tok Wan with a bunch of friends. Stayed for a couple of hours then went to pick up our kuih seri muka order from our friend and went home to get ready for MIL’s doa selamat as she and her husband will be going for Umrah in 2 weeks’ time.
On Sunday SS went for golf in the afternoon and I was all ready to iron clothes and have some me time when my sister decided to have a meeting over lunch. So she picked me up and we had lunch at PappaRich, discussed on the Family Day plan and by 3 I was yawning away. Made my sister send me home that instant but guess what, I couldn’t sleep. Thankfully I didn’t cos it took me 3 hours to finish ironing all our clothes. #theregoesmysunday
That was my weekend. How was yours?
Till then,
Adios!
Amirah Z.
